Issue a credit note

Returns and corrections against a sales invoice.

A credit note reduces what a customer owes. It is linked to the original invoice, so both appear together in the customer's history.

  1. Open the original invoice

Find the submitted sales invoice you want to correct.

  2. Create the return

Select Create, then Return / Credit Note. A new invoice opens with Is Return (Credit Note) ticked and Return Against set to the original.

  3. Adjust the quantities

Keep only the items and quantities being returned or credited. Quantities show as negative.

  4. Submit

Select Save, then Submit. The customer balance goes down, and returned stock goes back to the warehouse if stock was updated.

  5. Refund or offset

Refund the customer with a payment entry, or leave the credit to be used against their next invoice.
